Wo möchten Sie fischen?
The waters near Malaga and the Costa del Sol are the most interesting of the Spanish Mediterranean for sport fishing. At the far west there is the Strait of Gibraltar that is considered a real nursery for fish. The enormous underwater mountains and the strong currents and harsh weather conditions have never allowed these waters to be overfished. Furthermore, all of the migrating fish that come and go from the Mediterranean have to pass through these waters. Just passing the Bay of Algeciras, the sea drops off to more than 500 meters deep; the deepest part surpasses 1000 meters.
The seabed in the area near Malaga and Benalmadena is relatively flat and sandy. To find depths of 100 meters or more, you have to go out several miles from the coast. In front of Marbella and Puerto Banus, however, el marine bottom is rocky with depths that are clearly marked. It’s a paradise for fishing, as there is an abundance of fish. There are areas, such as ‘Las Bovedas’ for example, where the marine bottom rises from 70 meters to only 19 meters in depth. It is clear that these underwater mountains generate tremendous currents and attract lots of fish. The best technique is bottom fishing, wreck fishing or jigging in these areas. Trolling life bait with downriggers is also very successful. These areas are good all year round.
The tuna species and the bill fish arrive towards may and stay until end of September. They can be found quite a few miles off the Costa del Sol coast. Big game fishing for blue fin tuna can be very interesting, especially in june and july.
September and October are the best months for light tackle inshore trolling. This is when you'll catch bonitos and dolphinfish.
