Fishing Tours in the Ebro Delta

Located in Riomar, Roned is a professional fishing charter that offeres excellent guiding service in the river Ebro and the Ebro Delta. With its 15 years experience, Capt. Ron has an extraordinary knowledge of the fishing grounds and the different fishing techniques. The huge advantage of being located in Riomar (Tarragona), is that you can either fish for Catfish, Black bass and Sander in the river Ebro or you can go salt water fishing for Leerfish, Bluefish, Bonito or Tuna in the Mediterranean Sea.

Fishing Area

The Ebro Delta is one of the best places to fish along the Catalan Coast, not to mention, the Spanish Mediterranean. The rich waters of the River Ebro empty into the Mediterranean, bringing food for all types of fish, birds, and mammals alike. There are many fishermen that are willing to drive hours on the highway to come fishing here to “get away.”
High up on the food chain we find the large predators that are so fascinating to us, the bluefish, amberjack, leerfish, and the sea bass, among others. During the winter months is usually when we stop fishing the salt waters and change to fishing the rivers. On a boat, we can start from the mouth of the Ebro River to the ‘Xerta’. Spinning, we catch zander, catfish, black bass or some sea bass.

The months of April and May are a time of transition: the water starts heating up and large amounts of water run down the Ebro River from the Pyrenees. This is when you can catch garfish, pageles, saddled sea bream, gilthead, sea bass; and in the river you still catch catfish and pike-perch. During the month of June, fish become more active and we begin to catch bluefish, leerfish, dentex, barracuda (sea pike) and gilthead.

The next months are the best for fishing in the Ebro Delta: June, July, August, and September. You can see seagulls everywhere and there is a lot of activity in the water. A part from the above mentioned predators, there are also Atlantic bonitos and dolphinfish. These are also the most interesting months to catch sea bass in the river.
With the arrival of the cold in autumn and winter, the sea becomes less active until slowly the cycle starts again, beginning with March...

Access to the Fishing Area

L'Ampolla has easy access from the AP7 (exit number 39A). By high speed train, AVE, you arrive at Camp de Tarragona and then rent a car. The nearest airports are Barcelona and Reus.

Boat and Captain

Capt. Ron, who is Dutch and speaks fluent English, has over 15 years experience fishing the Ebro and its Delta. This professional fishing guide knows all the secret spots and tricks of the river and the Mediterranean Sea. The huge advantage of being located in Riomar (Tarragona) is that you can go fishing every single day. When its windy and the sea gets bumpy, you can go discover the River Ebro and catch species like Catfish, Sander, Black Bass, Sea Bass, etc.
With calm weather, Ron likes to do some trolling with life bait, spinning or popping. Over the last few years, this guide has become a true bluefin tuna expert. He catches these giants spinning or chumming. Several European magazines have dedicated articles (and front cover for Beet) to him and his fishing charter company.

The fishing trips are organized with a centre console 23” Sea Fox with plenty of space for the anglers. The engine is an outboard 175HP Mariner. The boat also features outriggers, plotter, GPS, sounder, electric motor for fishing while drifting. It’s a fast boat that will bring you in no time to the fishing grounds.

Equipment

The fishing tackle includes light tackle, medium and big game tackle. Most of the equipment is from Shimano who sponsors this charter. It’s good to know that Shimano and Beet offer a Stradic Shimano reel, a Yasei rod, a Shimano jacket and a Shimano cap to the client that catches the biggest bluefin of the 2011 season with Capt. Ron.
