Sea Fishing in Marbella
In our search for the best fishing charter on the Costa del Sol, we drove along the coast, passing through the ports of Malaga, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella, Puerto Banus, Estepona, Sotogrande, etc ... We already knew dozens of fishing charters at these ports, but we wanted to ask people which one they would recommend to charter a fishing trip, again and again we were recommended the same person: Oscar. They already spoke highly of him in the nautical fair of Barcelona, but when we met him in person and there was no doubt: he was the best.
Rodman 1250, Port Banús, Malaga
Banús is just outside the "funnel" in the Strait of Gibraltar, which does not suffer the harsh weather of the Strait. Many are the days when the weather prevents fishing in the Strait, but there are no problems in the area of Banús.
The captain is highly experienced in all types of fishing techniques, but completely recommended deep sea fishing and deep sea trolling. It is the surest way to catch fish, and at the same time catch nice specimens such as dentex, red porgy, amberjack, Moroccan dentex, red hind and other large predators.
For those that prefer big game fishing, we can asure you that Oscar is the best for the job. The possibilities of catching tuna, Mediterranean marlin, swordfish, and other large types of marlin are great when you are with this guy.
The seabed in the area near Malaga and Benalmadena is relatively flat and sandy. To find depths of 100 meters or more, you have to go out several miles from the coast. In front of Marbella and Puerto Banus, however, el marine bottom is rocky with depths that are clearly marked. It’s a paradise for fishing, as there is an abundance of fish. There are areas, such as ‘Las Bovedas’ for example, where the marine bottom rises from 70 meters to only 19 meters in depth. It is clear that these underwater mountains generate tremendous currents and attract lots of fish.
Deep sea fishing and deep sea trolling are widely practiced to catch amberjack, Pink dentex, grouper or dentex, among others. At sea, you can fish for bluefin tuna, swordfish, marlin and the Mediterranean marlin.
Access to the Fishing Area
Boat and Captain
It is one of the best equipped Charters that we have seen. It has GPS, plotter, sonar (2000 meters), radar (48 mile range antenna), phone with two radio stations, auto pilot, video camera, fighting chair, hard top, double fly bridge cockpit, hot water, outriggers, 10 rod holders, wc, shower, life raft for 10 persons, solarium on the bow for three people ...
The boat is in perfect condition, everything is tidy and shiny. The skipper is such a perfectionist that the engines and bilges cannot have any spots of rust or oil.
No wonder that every four years, when he puts his boat for sale, it takes less than a week to sell it.
Undoubtedly, Oscar and his boat Luna are the best option to enjoy a fantastic day of fishing. A part from the fact that Oscar is a wonderful person who treats his customers like kings, he has 15 years experience of absolute dedication. He only does one thing: Fish. And each time he goes out, he demonstrates that he is the best at what he does.
He has fished in Senegal, Mauritius and Miami where he has learned countless techniques.
He won the Big Game Fishing Contest in Malaga three times, twice came in second in the same contest in Benalmádena also got second in the Big Game Fishing Contest in Estepona.
There is the possibility of competing with the boat Luna 7, for example, in the International Fishing Championship to be held in Benalmádena August 2010 or the Prince of Asturias Cup which will be organized in Marbella this September 2010.
We use 30 pound rods and reels for trolling. For chumming we use 80 pound rods and 130 pound Shimano reels. Also Shimano 50 pound reels.
The boat was amazing, the fishing great, the service exemplary and both Oscar and Fernando were a pleasure to spend the morning with.
We will recommend you to anyone else and will love to return next year! We have seen our photos on your website which sum it up.
Please pass on our thanks to Oscar; you can tell him that the salt-baked Red Snapper was excellent! Thanks again. - Paul, Heidi, Barbara, Tom, Luke and Alice; San Roque
