Big Game Fishing in S'Estanyol, Majorca
Last Saturday we had a short but great fishing trip with the Il.lusiò. It was a calm day, no wind and some clouds, so everything seemed perfect for a day wreck fishing. However, once out in the open sea, things weren't perfect a all. It got wavy, there was quite some wind and on the way to the wreck Miguel - the fishing guide - was getting nervous. Nothing more annoying to have problems anchoring on the exact spot when you have clients on board. When you don't fish exactly right on the wreck you won't catch a fish...
Once we where there, we had to anchor up to 3 times the be situated on THE spot. The clients - Pete and David - didn't come for the first time so they knew it was better to wait a little and anchor over and over again until the boat stops right in top of the wreck.
And it was worth the while to wait an extra 10 minutes because right from the beginning we had fish biting all over. We also had some heavy bites during the trip. We caught lots of small fish (black spot sea bream, pink sea bream, etc) but we also caught 3 Forkbeard from 10lb - 12lb and a nice 30lb Conger Eel. Pete had a nice fight with another Conger Eel - much bigger than the one that was landed - but the monster escaped right under the boat. We had several other hard bites, but the big creatures know their territory very well... When they notice something they don't like, they disappear into the wreck and then it's impossible to get them out of there... At least we know there are some very very big mamas down there!
David and Pete wanted to come back today, but we would have flown away with the wind (we have gusts up to 120km/h at the moment). So we'll have to wait until the weather calms down a little...
