Today, the « Mistral » is blowing with gusts up to 100km/h. The forecast tells us that the wind will decrease tomorrow and the calm will return. But for how long? Either way, we are in autumn now with unpredictable weather.
September and October month have frankly been great. The fishing charters Garrote and Il.lusiò (Cambrils, Tarragona) have had beautiful fishing days at seas; fishing while chumming has given us the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of catching mackerels, horse mackerels, bluefish and small bluefin tuna up to 5 kg.
Miguel and his Garrote where also very successful doing inshore trolling with life bait. More than one of his clients got the joy of their life. In the beginning of October for example, two friends were able to land two nice leerfish and just a few days later Noelia, her husband and their daughter caught a stunning leerfish of 18kg.
The boat Venezia (Barcelona) have also lived action-filled mornings catching small bluefins, dolphinfish and little tunny trolling feathers near the coast. The leerfish were also active in the maresme zone.
Julien, the captain of the Shad Rap (Ebro Delta, l'Ampolla) who normally is dedicated to spinning, focused on fishing with live bait (drifting). At the moment he’s catching horse-mackarel, dolphinfish, blue fish and leerfish as well as sea beams of 2-3 kg.
In Denia and Javea, Jose and his team had awesome outcomes of coastal trolling and the bottom fishing is getting started. They caught sea bream of great size, forkbeard and some grouper on the bottom.
The Fishing Charter Luna (Costa del Sol, Marbella) is as always dedicated to deep sea fishing with live bait and the season of sea bream of around 5 kgs is just around the corner. We went fishing personally with Captain Oscar and his mate Jose. The currents weren’t too good for fishing but we managed to net 13 small fish in about 4 hours time. It’s always great to be out there on the water with these great guys.
In September and October, Capt. Juanma from Natilla (Gibraltar Strait), dedicates his time mostly to spinning near Tarifa and as usual he’s catching big bonitos of 5-7 kg. He also catches plenty of bluefish or “chovas” as they call them in the south, baracuda, amberjack...
