Sea Fishing in Barcelona
Where do you want to fish?
Along the Barcelona coastline fishing is hot. You only have to visit the landmark ports, such as those of Masnou, Premia de Mar, Mataro, Arenys de Mar, Malgrat de Mar, Blanes and Tossa de Mar to comprehend the numerous amount of fishing boats and fishing charters that are docked there.
In Maresme, the sea bottoms close to the coastline are mostly sandy with a random rock or two to be found. Toward Blanes, Lloret de Mar, and Platja d’Aro, however there are more than just rocks on the sandy sea bottom. The waters near Masnou, Mataro, and Arenys de Mar are quite shallow, therefore it is necessary to navigate close to 25 miles out in order to find depths of 1000 meters for deap sea fishing. On the sea charts we can see that between the Blanes coastline and Lloret de Mar, there is an actual canyon that begins scarcely two miles from the coast, which rapidly changes depth to 500 meters and ends at 1720 meters. It is clear that this abyss if full of life and attracts very large predators such as the bluefin tuna, amberjack, swordfish, and the Mediterranean marlin, among others. At the end of April and May is when the bluefin tuna begin to show up again. The best season for your sea fishing trips is June, July, and August.
In the spring, summer and Autumn, it is also a good time to go trolling along the coast (In-shore trolling) . The areas of bluefish and leerfish are fished close in along the coastline, at a depth of about 7-8 meters with natural bait (small garfish and sea pikes, etc.). The Atlantic bonito and dolphinfish are fished a bit further out from the shore, in waters that range from 50-80 meters in depth. During the winter months, we do mostly deep sea fishing for red bream, red porgy, green wrasse, white sea bream, and others.
