Fishing Area
The fishing in Cape Verde is possible all year round. Although January and February normally are very windy, the rest of the year this archipelago offers excellent fishing conditions.
Cape Verde is known as the world’s best place for Atlantic Blue Marlin fishing. You can catch them all year round, but the best time is between mid March until the end of June. During September and October there are less blue marlin, but they are much bigger.
From September to December, Cape Verde is excellent for tuna fishing with lots of Yellowfin tuna from 100lbs up to 300lbs.
You may also catch Wahoo, Dorado, Barracuda, etc while light trolling, especially on the bank northeast of Santo Antao. This area shelters the biggest concentration of Wahoo of the Cape Verde Islands.
Jigging in Cape Verde is very popular because this technique produces great results. The volcanic rocky bottom around the islands Sao Nicolau, Razo and also Santo Antao is the home of impressive Amberjack. Jigging you may also catch Blackjack, Barracuda, Grouper and at night Oilfish.
The local fishermen use a handline for bottom fishing in Cape Verde and they don’t fish deeper than 100 meters. Beyond these depths, there still are lots of species to discover.
Cape Verde is also a great place for shark fishing (Tiger shark, Bull shark, Hammerhead etc) and also the very big Stingray up to more than 300kg.
