Fishing Excursion: June 27, 2010
Responsible Fishing
Last Sunday the 27th of June, we went fishing on the Il.lusiò fishing charter. I was accompanied by Julià from Barcelona and Vicente from Valencia, we experienced a great day of fishing. At 07:00 in the morning we took off thru the entrance of the Cambrils port, heading towards 'Les Mamelles' and 'El Rinyò' about 36 miles out from the coast.
It was the perfect temperature and the sea was as smooth as a plate. At 9:46 am we had the first bite, and then later, with two more hits we caught took 2 small bluefin tunas. We did not have to wait long for all three of us to have a bite. In total we had 14 bites and caught 11 tuna. Each tuna was returned unharmed to the sea, after we took pictures of the tuna and its corresponding fisherman.
I know you guys are gonna tell me that it doesn't count, but I'll tell you something else: the last bite was something different. We all thought that it was another tuna, but this time bigger. When the animal is gradually approaching the ship, we realized it was not a tuna, but an impressive Mediterranean Marlin (imperial aguja) that measured about 1.75 meters long. This electric blue animal was too big for the net that we had brought along. Almost as a reflex, we hauled up the fish to the platform on the stern. Here, the marlin could get out of the hook. Miguel jumped on top of the marlin, but he escaped ... He got away, but we were all greatly impressed by the image of this beautiful animal. Anyway ... everyone enjoyed a great day of fishing and are already eager for another attack!
